The effectiveness of the preservatives used in cosmetic products must be tested before the original packaging is opened and in order to remain microbiologically stable during use by the end user. With this test (Challenge Test), which examines its protective effectiveness, it is determined whether your product is protected by the preservatives you use against any microbiological contamination and deterioration that the product will be exposed to before its original package is opened and during its use by the end consumer.
The Preservative Efficacy Test (Challenge Test) is based on an artificial contamination created on samples under laboratory conditions and the numerical data obtained for this contamination.
The result of the test is determined by logarithmic evaluation of the number of microorganisms in the artificially contaminated product at certain time intervals (such as 2nd, 7th, 14th and 28th days).
To the product; Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Candida albicans and Aspergillus brasiliensis (Aspergillus niger) microorganisms are inoculated under laboratory conditions and the process is initiated by inoculating a number of microorganisms in accordance with reference methods.
Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC®9027
Staphylococcus aureus ATCC®6538
Escherichia coli ATCC®8739
Candida albicans ATCC®10231
Aspergillus brasiliensis (A. niger) ATCC®16404
