In order to put cosmetic products on the market in countries that are members of the European Union, a Product Information File must be prepared as explained in the 1223/2009 Cosmetic Regulation. The Product Information File is mandatory and should be prepared separately for each cosmetic product.
Article 11 of this regulation states that the Product Information File of the relevant cosmetic product must be kept for ten years after the last batch of products by the Responsible Person.
The person responsible must ensure that the Product Information File language is easily understood by the authorities and also update the document if necessary. The Product Information File (PIF) should be stored in a secure area. It must be accessible electronically or otherwise.
